Outline of Okitsu-Portpark

Starting in April 2022, the park will be managed and operated by Tsukahara Green Space Research Institute, Inc. We will continue to focus on plant and facility management to ensure the enjoyment of visitors.
Okitsu Beach was certified with the Blue Flag, an international environmental certification system for beaches, in May 2023. It is the eighth beach in Japan and the second in Chiba Prefecture, following Motosuka Beach in Sanmu City. As of the end of May 2025, 5,195 beaches in 51 countries around the world have been certified, with 15 in Japan.
In fiscal year 2024, the park will undergo comprehensive maintenance in April, July, and October. On Friday, November 29th, we conducted a trash collection campaign around Okitsu Port Seaside Park and Okitsu Beach. From the end of 2024 through January 2025, we had a series of sunny, dry days, but on January 6th, we were blessed with a long-awaited rain shower. Due to the continued cold weather, the Kawazu cherry blossoms in the park didn’t reach full bloom until late February.
In fiscal year 2025, the park underwent comprehensive maintenance in April and July. In May, the flowers on the shrubs and shrubbery began to bloom, and the red and black mulberries were also noticeable. Perhaps due to the intense heat, the hydrangeas behind the lawn area were still in full bloom, even in early July. ⇒See “Park and Surrounding Flora and Fauna.” On August 23rd, near the bridge leading from the parking lot to Okitsu Beach, a hands-on craft workshop using shells collected from Okitsu Beach was held. The children’s unique creations were truly impressive. Until 2025, we will have three consecutive years of intense heat. However, thanks to the cold waters of the outer bay, Katsuura City enjoys a cool breeze, making it comfortable enough to sleep at night without air conditioning.
The concrete terrace near the bridge is dilapidated and at risk of damage, so access is prohibited. ⇒See “Event Information and Park Updates.”

●With a swimming beach nearby, you can enjoy the open scenery and soothe your soul. There’s a perfect balance between the clean sandy beach and the rugged rocky shore.
●It’s within walking distance of JR Okitsu Station. It’s located along National Route 128.
●Facing the Boso coast, Katsuura enjoys a mild climate, free from extreme heat or cold. It’s been reported that Katsuura has never recorded a scorching hot day (over 35°C) in recorded history, and in recent reports, it’s been highlighted as a summer resort. Its comfortable summers and warm winters have been attracting attention.

●Bringing trash into the park from outside is prohibited. In particular, please do not put cans, plastic bottles, or other unwanted items from sea fishing or barbecues into the trash cans next to the vending machines. Furthermore, dumping used flammable spray cans and other items is strictly prohibited, as there is a risk of explosion or fire.
●Barbecues are prohibited within the park. There are no staff patrolling the park all day. In the unlikely event of a fire or damage to a car parked in the parking lot, the park’s designated manager will not be held responsible.
●Pitching tents or staying overnight within the park is prohibited.
●Do not flush foreign objects or solids down the administration building’s toilets. This can cause clogs and sewage backflow. Please understand that if the toilets or septic tanks malfunction, we may be forced to close the administration building.
●Please refrain from urinating or graffitiing in the changing rooms and showers, which are intended to provide a comfortable environment for our customers.
●The parking lot will be very crowded on weekends and holidays during the beach opening period (July 12th to August 24th in 2025). Parking that obstructs other vehicles and parking on the park paths is prohibited.
●In addition to the above precautions, please be aware that any behavior that violates common sense will be dealt with strictly.

Okitsu Port, where Okitsu Port Seaside Park is located, is located in the central part of the Sotobo Coast and has a natural bay shape. Designated a refuge port in September 1951, breakwaters, boat ramps, and landing areas have been installed since 1953 for small vessels. Currently, the port is primarily used as a dock for small boats operating in the area. Designated an “Eco-Coast” in 1996, the area underwent coastal development with consideration for the ecosystem and natural environment, primarily for loggerhead turtles. In 2020, Katsuura City was designated as a “Port Oasis Katsuura” to promote port-centered urban development. As one of its constituent facilities, the park is expected to contribute to regional development.
